Widely exhibited, collected and
awarded, D. Omer "Salty" Seamon liked to say he never let his
training interfere with his painting. His early commercial work
included theater posters for Paramount in the 1930s and travel
posters for Thompson, Symor Co. in Terre Haute, Indiana. He received
an honorary doctorate of humanities from Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology, Terre Haute, in 1979. He was also recognized by the
Indiana General Assembly and the U.S. Senate for his depictions of
natural and rural life. Some 300 of his watered works are reproduced
in the book "Salty": The Watercolor of Hoosier Anist D. Omer Seamon,
published in 1997. It's available through Rose-Hulman Institute,
with proceeds benefiting an endowment Seamon established there.
Seamon passed away in 1997.
