""When
most people
visit a city, they go
to the major tourist
attractions. My
travels take me to
the Chamber of
Commerce path in
my never-ending
quest for the urban
Grail, the
combination of
architecture and
humanity that will
make an exciting,
dynamic cityscape.
My goal is to evoke
a sense of identity
with the subject.
When people tell
me they feel they
can walk into one
of my paintings
and be absorbed
by it, I know I've
succeeded."

|
Describing himself as a
superrealist, Alan Carter begins a piece by shooting dozens of
photographs of a single location from many angles and under varying
weather, lighting and traffic conditions. As he paints, he
manipulates color, light, shadow and the image itself. Carter's
surrealistic cityscapes have been exhibited in such diverse
locations as the New York Art Expo, the Los Angeles Art Expo and
Miami International Art Show. His work is in the collections of the
Kansas City Royals; German Consulate, Chicago; Miami Beach City
Hall; IBM, Des Moines; and others. He is a graduate in music from
Indiana University. |
